NVIDIA Card Produces Zero Video Output

Greetings:

I have successfully installed Arch on an x86 BIOS Lenovo workstation. Several problems presented which were subsequently overcome. I have used various *nix systems off and on for 20 years, yet my knowledge of system configuration has doubled (or better) in the past month.

I am presently stuck at installing an NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT video card. From power up to successful boot to command line, zero video output is displayed. The monitor does not seem to know that it is connected to any video source, judging by the amber LED power indicator.

My present tack to to modify GRUB2 configuration settings. Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you,
mdoyle

Do you have the possibility to test the card in a different system? If not even the BIOS screen appears it is likely that the card itself is defective.

Thank you, TobiSGD. I will test this in a few hours and report back. (I hope you are not correct, for the sake of my own mental health!)

Well if your system monitor is not green. then it may be the bios set to onboard video.
some older boards you had to specify. and new boards bio's you can set to auto. That would cause this.

Not only that, but some 8x00 series GeForce cards also require a power supply feed, and in fact many modern GeForce and Radeon cards do equally. Check and see if you have it plugged in as well with the power feed cord.

The problem was fixed by replacing the DVI cable, where a pin was bent in a perfect "L" formation. I should have figured out weeks ago that the problem was present at BIOS boot and was not a GRUB issue. Why does Arch make me learn?

Thank you for getting me on track. Forward to xorg!

(This is my first post. Do I somehow modify the subject to indicate "SOLVED"?
