Smile New to Arch - two JRE's in one arch. Possible?

Hi,

I just installed Arch on an alternative machine. Took me a little under five hours from first boot from the net install to workable system and so far, I am pleased.

This in Arch is getting happier...

Recap: I am looking for a distro that has a longer life cycle (posed the question in the forum - that's where I found out about Arch) as opposed to Fedora. That is great but changes too fast to be workable for me...

Ok, so I got this thing rolling. I use Firefox and would like to use the Sun jre in Firefox, but leave the openjdk intact for eclipse.

I already installed/unpacked the jre in the /usr/share folder and have a link to the plugin in the /home/t01/.mozilla/plugins folder. Upon check of the available plugins, the Sun JRE does not pop up in the list.

How do I fix this?

I tried to install the alternatives configurator

Quote:
pacman -S alternatives
but - would ya know - that didnt work...

Please shed some light, thanks.

Thor

Hi,

Solved, I do not need the two side by side like in Fedora. There does not seem to be an "alternatives" mechaniosm either. I just whacked in the Sun JDK and let pacman overwrite the Open JDK and I'm off...

Wellness
