Network Scanner Setup with SANE

I suppose this topic isn't really printer model dependent - but it is a Dell V515w all-in-one inkjet. I could probably get it working as a locally attached scanner, but I want it to work over the network just as the printer works.

Supposedly I need sane-net to make this happen, however, at least in Arch Linux, the package doesn't seem to be available anywhere from repositories (pacman and AUR).

Ideas?

The Arch wiki indicates that it should be available in the "extra" repos.

Not for Dell/Lexmark Scanners. Plus, the sane-net package is nowhere to be found any Pacman or AUR.

Whoops, I need to work on my reading comprehension.

Lexmarks are often problematical though I understand Lexmark's Linux support has improved somewhat since the time five years ago I was told to "lose the Lexmark." Do you happen to know which Lexmark model this is rebranded from? If you do, you might find some help on the OpenPrinting database.

It's a volunteer site, so it's not inclusive, but I've often found it helpful.

I spent about an hour on the phone with Dell and Lexmark CS reps last week. Dell says that although it is a rebranded Lexmark printer, there is no Lexmark model number. Lexmark CS INSISTED that it isn't a Lexmark printer - even though it clearly is since, when installing the Windows software, it uses Lexmark drivers (plus there are very close models on the Lexmark site as well).

Someone's lying.

I haven't dealt with any Dell-branded printers, but, from what I've read here, I get the impression that most of them are Lexmark.

I have an idea but it is a shot in the dark. Try hooking the printer up to the computer and running dmesg; the dmesg output might tell you more accurate information about the printer than did tech support.

You might try Lexmark X204n scanner drivers (available in .rpm and .deb format) from the Lexmark site.

I've sucessfully installed the driver (albeit for a known X204n), but I'm encountering networking issues.

I'll post elsewhere.

But, on the face of it, if the driver doesn't work, uninstall, try another..........
