Black screen on boot with AMD Radeon R7 370
When I boot Arch from my USB stick, I get a black screen. I tried "nomodeset" and it works but when I complete my install and reboot to finish customizing I get the blacks screen again and theres no way for me to enter the "nomodeset" again. Please help.

Simply add "nomodeset" to the kernel command line via your bootloader.
I would be more specific but I don't know which boot{loader, manager} you are using. |
Hi.After multiple attempts I just gave up and installed Windows. Thanks for your help.

Thought i'd revive this and see if I got some tips. I'm trying to install Arch again. During the install, the screen just turns blank and stays that way and there's no way to get a prompt. This only began when I installed the R7 370. I would love to get Arch installed with my AMD card. Any tips would be cool. Thanks.

I tried that already. It will run for a few seconds and then the screen will just turn blank. I'm currently running Manjaro Gnome until I find the answer to this problem.

I tried it again this time it worked. I added the "nomodeset" to the linux line. However, it requires me to do it everytime I restart my PC. Is there anyway to make it permanent?
Update: I figured it out. I edit the file /etc/default/grub and put in nomodeset and using the catalyst-test drivers. Now running Arch with R7 370. :) |
Now i'm getting this error while doing a "pacman -Syu":
:: Synchronizing package databases... catalyst is up to date core is up to date extra 1804.9 KiB 2.10M/s 00:01 [----------------------] 100% community is up to date :: Starting full system upgrade... resolving dependencies... looking for conflicting packages... error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies) :: catalyst-hook: requires linux<4.2 Can somebody help me fix this? Thanks. |
