XFCE4 + Compiz-Fusion on Arch Linux
ArchLinux - I'm a fan now.
I haven't been able to achieve this
"simply" with ANY other distro.
Code:
pacman -Syu compiz-gtk
fusion-icon &
That's it, it just works!
All I can say is:
"wow" -
simplicity with the eye-candy.
Emerald breathes new life in XFCE's themes (which are great to begin with.. but anyhow..)
Plus, it runs
fast.
Ubuntu - every time I would try to config compiz or mess with it - it dies, and I can't fix it until I reinstall (or remove all my configs). I'm
SURE I'm doing something wrong. If I try compiz on another DM (i.e. Xfce, KDE, fluxbox)- it dies. It only worked flawlessly in GNOME for me. I usually end up turning it off, since moving a window or doing anything is slows my PC to a crawl (AMD Athlon 1.6G). If it is manually installed - it will not work. This is Ubuntu 8.04 ( I don't know if they've fixed this in 8.11 ).
Red Hat - if I change a resolution or an xorg config it stops functioning.
Slackware- I don't really get how it "supposed" to work.
I can't speak for the other distros.
