This is my first Linux forum post so please be gentle. I recently installed Arch in Virtualbox for the first time and everything went (almost) smoothly. It appears that alsa installed correctly, but when I ran speaker-test, I got an error message. I continued with the installation to the point where I am now on the LXDE desktop, but I have no sound. The error message is:
[andrew@vbox ~]$ speaker-test
speaker-test 1.0.27.1
Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1022
snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
Playback open error: -2,No such file or directory
Edit: Also, the instructional installation video I followed showed adjusting the PCM slider in alsamixer, however, I have no PCM slider.
I looked all over the internet, but could not find an answer that worked for me. I need step by step instruction where someone can give me specific answers based on my hardware. I turn to you LinuxQuestions.org users in hope that I can resolve this issue. Please let me know what to post so you can get a better picture of my hardware and issue. I am comfortable with CLI and with editing config files. Thanks in advance (sorry if I posted this in the wrong place!)
