if you can install slack, you can install arch as well... just follow the documentation

I'm using it practically since the beginning of arch, and I'd never go back to another distro (and I've used about any other distro in the past) so yes, it's a 'fairly' good distribution

This is an amazing distro! I just began using it a few weeks ago, and I must say I absolutely love it. If you read the documentation , you should be fine on the install. It's the fastest distro I've seen yet. Fast install, fast boot, fast everything. It's optimized for i686. Give it a try, you'll be glad you did

It is very good.

Since some of the updates available online indicate it, I think the 0.7 "Wombat" release will be out in a very short time. The base install is fairly light so there is no need to wait for 0.7, you can use the pacman utility to update to the new release at any time.

As I said in the other post, it is only medium-hard to install. Not a one-choice install like lindows, but nothing like Gentoo. Maybe a little more demanding than the present Slackware install. It takes a little time (mostly because it does not have kde, xorg, etc on the CD, you need to use pacman to install it over the net), but still can be done in an hour or two if you have cable/dsl or better.

The packages are all in tar.gz format, so if you want to install more than once, you can burn the /var/cache/pacman/pkg dir onto cd (or 2) and then copy it back on the next install to save download time. Packman will find the packages there automatically,

Does that mean installing arch without Inet access is senseless? Because I have a 0.4 cd lying around somewhere.

Arch 0.6 is the current one, and 0.7 will be out very soon. It is very limiting not to have internet access, unless you are a cli only person.

I installed on a computer that only has modem access, but I did so by burning the contents of the local pacman cache from an up-to-date arch install to cd and then just copying the cd to the cache of the new install. It all fit on 2 cds.

Just fyi.

But anway...I do love this distro. It was wierd at first, but after I got use to it, I haven't had any problems.
