I am trying to install a brother ads2700w scanner. When I run the package I receive a message libjpeg8 is required. I have installed libjpeg62-turbo-dev but still receive message that the libjpeg8 is required. Anyone out there can help?
Your scanner driver needs a more recent jpeg library than you have on your system. You haven't said what Linux distribution you are using (I notice that you posted from a Mac). When asking this sort of question, you should always include your distro and version right at the beginning.
Some distros have libjpeg8 available as a separate package. Have you checked your package manager for this?
Installing libjpeg62-turbo-dev will not help you. These development packages are essential when building software locally from source code, but that's not your problem here.
It's your bad luck that your scanner driver needs a graphics format package to function. Most of them don't.
OK. Fire up synaptic and see if you can find libjpeg8. It may be there; mx is a Debian derivative and Debian has it in the unstable branch. If you can't find a version for mx, you'll have to build it by hand.
