Can't install Safeeyes

I've tried three different ways to install safeeyes. MX seems to hate it. Why does MX make installing a really useful program so hard? It worked find in Mint. Staring at a computer screen for hours is bad for your eyes so it's a shame MX is blocking safeeyes. Is there an alternative?

Come on: MX does not *hate* safeeyes and is not *blocking* it. The package is simply not in Debian Stable, upon which MX is based:
Quote:
$ apt policy safeeyes
N: Unable to locate package safeeyes
It is in Debian Testing (Buster), however, and that installs and runs without problem on MX-17. You can get it yourself by doing a websearch on "Debian safeeyes" and downloading/installing the package; the normal MX procedure is to make a package request on the Forum to have it added to our repos.

I already tried the .deb file and got a bunch of errors. Not ready for prime time. A python error I fixed. Then a GIK error. I also tried an appimage so I didn't have all the dependencies and that didn't work either.

So there seem to be some problems with your particular install, since it works for me with no fuss. Your best option is to post on the Forum, providing the output of

, and be more specific about "a bunch of errors."

BTW: while I was typing this response the screen went dark and I got my first safeeyes hint--pretty neat. I made a package request so it will be available to all MX users--thanks for the suggestion.

OK, our great packagers have done their magic:

That was a quick & easy build.
Safeeyes is now in the MX-17 Test repository.
Use MX Package Installer > Full App Catalog, click MX Test Repo button, then scroll down to find it and install.

Great. Installed. I tried an alternative called Stretchly and that's also good, but I'm mostly into eye exercises. Stretchly is more general.

Please mark this thread solved. It would help also if you could post some feedback on the Forum so the package could be moved out of MX Test into the main repo.
