how do you install Brave on mx linux ?

Directions for Ubuntu should work.

Just a note that the Wikipedia page for Brave (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brave_browser) currently states:

You need to install public keys for any repositories that you add. You seem to be missing these for your Virtualbox, Brave and Opera repositories.

The method of doing this should be listed on the web pages of the relevant software/repository. I would recommend that you take one repository at a time and refer to the relevant website.

Start with Virtualbox. How did you add that repository? Which instructions did you follow?

I assumed you take the JWJones suggestion with Ubuntu

1. edit your repo, ie /etc/apt/source.list.d/brave-browser-release.....
   
   change "Continuum" with "bionic"
   
2. import the key
   
   Code:

   ---

   curl -s https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com/brave-core.asc | sudo apt-key add -

   ---

3. run update
   
   Code:

   ---

   sudo apt update

   ---

4. install brave
   
   Code:

   ---

   sudo apt install brave-browser brave-keyring

No kidding, way to kill off the product. Reminds me of the old AOL days where you only got so many minutes.

Guess I will never be trying this browser.

Or print media, such as newspapers, that are struggling, and therefore attempt to supplement their revenue by implementing a subscription model on their websites, even though there are plenty of (better) news sources that are freely available.

lol I've tried it once never liked it, why would they do pay-to-browse? heck I can't think of a browser that does that.

oh OP did you try to convert Brave by using deb2tgz ?

I read that wiki article - looks like pay-to-browse is ads. Isn't that sort of counter-intuitive to what the brave browser was created for? I thought it was a privacy type browser with those and other security features other browsers didn't have. Ads are contrary to that, at least in my opinion. Very strange.

You fail to understand how it works. Brave would allow users to opt-in to viewing targeted ads which are now blocked. Ad revenue would be shared among the advertisers, Brave, and the user. The user is not "paying" anything to browse.

that was a massive help! been trying to install the browser on Mint 19 and it was saying no keyring found, wasn't really sure what to do about it. went here and saw this thread and instantly i have the browser installed :-)
