The XP version?

Gilbert,

What sort of timescale are you looking at for release of the version of Amigo for XP?

I'm very interested in trying it out.

In fact, I have a friend who has DOS accounting software which won't run in XP. I'm thinking that Dosemu running on top of Amigo could do the trick.

Many thanks,

Dave Coventry

I assume you saw GNAshley's post of the other day... I too am waiting to see the xp version, have sent an email, and am waiting with patience. Regards, John

I heard from Gilbert

There is a new site for amigoxp, slightly under construction, but its instructions for ordering were incomplete as of last night.

Apparently the set up for PayPal is taking a bit of time.

Hopefully we'll be able to order the CD soon.

Regards,

John

Looks like all the details are set for purchasing the CD. See http://amigolinux.org/index.htm and follow the amigoXP links.

What sort of box is it hardware-wise and what kind of partitions/freespace do you have?

BTW in answer to cov above -Amigo-XP includes a ROX-Filer (compressed)AppDir of EMU. I haven't really worked on trying to get it to run though. I hope you will try this and report when you receive your CD. There are other Amigo users who are interested in running DOS-based software.
About 5-10% of the computers running today are still using some DOS software. Lots of accounting software, medical-practice, even engineering software. I have one 'fan' who has expressed interest in 'porting' his own DOS software, or making it Linux 'compatible' by using it under some emulator.

Gilbert,

Paypal have refused my payment citing some spurious reason.

Can't really see how I can get the funds to you.

What a bunch of worthless tossers!

Cov, I'm sending your CD today. You mentioned in an e-mail that it might take 6 months to get there -I think we can work out the payment details by then. If all else fails you can 'sing for your supper' by contributing a HOWTO or something.

Folks, I'm not trying to leave anyone out of this! Amigo has lots of users who are students and also many who live in developing countries. The generosity of some makes it possible for me make a little extra effort to get Amigo-XP to those that have difficulties with PayPal or with their postal service or whatever.

I may have been exagerating a wee bit...
Air mail will take just over a week from the UK, Dunno about from Germany.
Surface mail will take a couple of months.

I'd love to. Tell me what you need.
