NTFS Issues?

If I use the AmigoXP installer to install Amigo to a NTFS partition then boot normally due to the new entry in the boot.ini file it is running off an NTFS partition and when I save any changes it will be writing to the NTFS partition.

I was under the impression that there are major issues when Linux writes to an NTFS partition (especially a 2.4.x kernel).

Is that not relevant in this situation?

Any info would be great. I am very interested in trying this out.

thx.

I'm not too familiar with Amigo, but there are NTFS patches and such that allow supposedly safe writing to NTFS. The default Linux kernels don't support it fully yet, no doubt because there isn't nearly enough testing to get it into the vanilla kernel. But the NTFS writers are supposed to be pretty darn good.

Welcome to both of you. Amigo writes completly safely to a loop mounted filesystem located within an ntfs partition. it uses the new ntfs driver patch(actually the whole lck1 patchset) which allows for safe writing as long as the file size isn't changed. This is thoroughly tested and has caused no problems whatsoever on my system.
AmigoXP keeps ALL it files within a single folder and only touches boot.ini (after of course creating a backup). no other windows files or the registry is touched and NO writes are made to the MBR. uninstall.bat will restore your original boot.ini
Once unzipped, AmigoXP creates a dual-boot 'install' on ntfs in about 4 seconds.
So far, if installing to anywhere other than C:, you'll need to edit both /boot/menu.lst and install.bat (repair.bat and uninstall.bat also, if you use them). If you already dual boot and use lilo or GRUB, you can configure them to boot Amigo.

There are ways to allow full read and write safely now to all ntfs partitions, however it does use 2 microsoft files to achive this from the latest drivers for windows xp. So to be legal you would have to have a licenced copy of xp in order to use this method.

i'll post some links and helpful hints later when i can get to my home computer

me mucho likeo Amigo !!

There is captive-ntfs also, which I may include later. It is slow but works. It also uses DLL-type files, but freeware.
