links to old howto page

Hi Gnashley,
do you still have links to your old amigo web pages(phoenix and other info page on 20MB/30MB slackware slackware install)
I'm not refering to download page but the webpages of your old howto's.

coz i'd like to trim down zipslap10 similar to your 20-30MB howto. this is for my project on console game which only use console linux, framebuffer(no xwindow) and sound support.

another thing, what are the files I need to download to have automatic hardware detection on lan card, soundcard
and video card similar to your amigo2?

cheers.

I think I gave links to the mirrors which should have everything, including an old copy of that.

hardware detection involved several things which are mostly available split up now -hwsetup, kudzu, hwdata
Most of the rest was just scripts located under /usr/lib/amigosetup, plus hacks to the init/shutdown routines and stuff in /etc/X11.
You can find most of this as used before, now or future by cruising around my Projects area:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/...AmigoProjects/

My last push towards a release was for a <256MB USB installation which optimizes performance even on low-RAM systems and can be run LIVE anytime you want. Most of the packages are already in the download area, plus hundreds more to fill out with.

thanks for the reply .
I like to ask also, if it is possible for amigo to have ready-only file system so that when it is use by other users it will not change its settings and it can be safely shutdown by just pulling the power plug(much like live cd)? ofcourse if i need to make adjustments i'll set it to read-write again and when done set it back to read-only.
it will be use by kids for browsing net and you know w/ kids lots of things can go wrong.
I hope you get the idea my

Well, yeah of course that can be done. Actually the last work I did towards a distro did just this -provide a base system that would by default run 'live', or let you configure and save the changes. The whole thing fits on a 256MB FLASH and includes browser, e-mail and about 50 other GUI progs. In order to save 'writes' to the FLASH, it runs read-only. When you want to save configurations or add packages, you turn the 'write' capability on.
Actually, some parts of the system are always read-write(running in RAM) and changes are only saved when asked for.

You could turn the whole thing (Amigo) into a single image and then mount it on tmpfs or load into RAM(if you have enough [512MB]?)

Probably the easiest way to handle the 'kids' is to limit their rights, perhaps create a specila group with certain rights.
As for pulling the plug, there'S nothing better than reiserfs for that. If you install Amigo normally to a FAT, then 'migrate' it to a partition formatted with resierfs you'll be as safe as possible. I have systems that have been done this way(plug-pull) a few times and they always come back without any problems.
