Here's a text-only screen shot of AmigoXP :p
I mean here's a list of packages. Please give me your feedback on this and suggest how to fill out better. I've arranged them in loose categories, because whole categories might be taken out , left in, or replaced with alternative choices.
For instance I don't have all the sound and mp3 stuff in there, plus, what about the dvd tools, audio cd tools. And what burner? Xcdroast, gtoaster, other?

There are comments at the bottom about GNOME and it's use by ROX. But also, just by adding QT and KDE libs, you can run Quanta, K3B and other QT progs.

AmigoXP also includes many AppDir's that work best with the ROX-Filer:
There's more than this -too many to list and describe. Once you've used Archive,
Edit and a few other AppDir's, you may not want to even SEE another desktop
again! Also includes a Slackware PKGTOOL wrapper -see a list of installed pkgs
after 1 second wait! To install a package just drag the .tgz package and drop
it on the icon!

Looks nice, but I'd rather use Slackware-current packages... I'm going to upgrade my kernel to 2.4.28 in a while - this would also be nice to include a newer kernel version (the kernel-ide package).

Apart from that - the choice is overwhelming. ;)

I WILL be going to 2.4.28, at least, before we get to the first 'stable' release.

It's impossible to develop a coherent release based on a moving target, especially in this case -MANY packages from current won't work at all with 10.0. Plus stability is a main objective here, since we usually target a non-expert user base. I'm pretty opposed to the auto-upgrade mentality. Leads to broken systems too often. I'm trying to build a system that doesn't break. Notice that security-update and bug-fix packages ARE in the list(from /patches). I'm satisfied with Pat V's judgement on these things, mostly.

Many Linux users that aren't running apache, php or other services, never need any security measures at all, not even a firewall.

All that being said, I am devising a slick way to do a total upgrade or safely remove and install anything. AmigoXP will probably include this feature -something like the Windows Repair Console, or PE. A maintenance linux for doing rescue and other work on the main installation.

I am also putting some effort into several ways of dependency-resolution, -without auto-installing the pkgs.

I hope to soon get an e-mail to some of you on the team to outline some of these 'philosophies'. Always remember that we are designing for someone else, not our own tastes. Your tastes and mine are not ignored, but we are advanced computer users. Most of my effort is meant to first help non-experts run Linux.
Amigo is my attempt to change the 'demography' of the linux user base a little.

The list is huge, there are some things in the list that I am getting for Amigo 2. Since I would like to help with developement of Amigo, are there any C++ packages? Or is it I cant read? Gnome would also be a good plus. unless it is too big for a smaller distro. if it is simple for now, then I can get used to using a Linux distro and become a better user. :) :)
Also inlcude the sound and dvd drivers and stuff like that.

The auto update program is sometimes a bad idea, but yours is the best solution so far. Keep the ideas coming.

You can try xine, kaffeine or mplayer for multimedia
