disappointed with amigo
I just got my copy of amigo, and,as is the usual case with linux, found it to be a pain in the ass to work with. Unlike the developers claim, it does not "install in less than five minutes", in fact, there were problems with the cd from the beginning (my firewall wouldn't allow it to install. It requires a funky zip package to decompress, and after installing it four or five times, I still get an error message saying that it cannot find the image file when I try to boot it). Unless you are a linux geek, don't bother with this distribution; since putting it on my maching, I'm stuck with a prompt upon booting to boot linux or windows, even though I've uninstalled this software several times. And you can forget support--support consists of this forum, and I see only two other posts besides my own. All in all, this is yet another totally disappointing distribution of linux, and does a great job of explaining the reason why most of us are still stuck with microsoft. Great idea, but until the developers get the self install procedure working, don't buy it.

Did you try writing the developer about your problem? I've resolved lots of problems that way.
Why should a firewall prevent acces to your CD. You should be logged in a administrator in order to install Amigo-XP.
The 'funky' self-extracting zipfile avoids problems with other zip programs which can't hanfle such large files.

LOL! I didn't think the developer in question would step in the thread
Amigo looks easy to use... I'll give it a spin, see what it's all about.

It was late when I read the thread so I didn't respond completely.
First of all, let's be fair. If you bought an Amigo-XP CD from me, then you have my name, e-mail address -even my home address. And you have received at least one e-mail from me personally.
I don't think that posting here with a username of 'amigosucks' is an especially good way to get help. Still, let's do that. I've only had two reports of any problems with Amgo-XP. Your's is the very first report of problems with the installer.
Sounds like you didn't read the documentation. An uninstaller is included which will remove the dual-boot option from your startup. There is also a detailed explanation of how to manually fix it.
Can you give the details fo your computers hard disk partitions and file systems? Did you unpack Amigo onto an uncompressed FAT or NTFS partition? Which partition is xpbase.img on?
Traditonally, when a user finds or resolves a bug, credit is given in the code or changelog. "Thanks to 'amigosucks' for pointing out this problem..."

Your question would get more exposure with another thread. I don't know personally, but if the developer is no longer monitoring this thread, try making a thread for this perticuliar question instead.
