AmigoXP: some questions on getting it running...

ok, so i installed AmigoXp, KDE, the extra apps, and two blanks: a 512megs and a 256megs...

so, my questions are:

-First: KDE doesn't run... i try to run it and it justs dumps me to the CLI...ç

-Second: i'm on a laptop, so i have a pcmcia network card... i'm not entirely suro how to configure it, so any help wpild br helpful...

-Third, i want to use one of the blanks as wsap, but i'm not entirely suro where to find it to make it a swap partition...

i think that's it for now...

does it give an error message when it dumps you to the CLI?? did you configure everything right for the X server? Things like incorrect graphics card drivers or wrong resoultion or bit level could cause it to not work too..

Are you trying to start KDE from the standard WDM login? or have you run xwmconfig to change window managers?

To use a swap image, first create the file of the size you want, then run mkswap on it:
mkswap /path/to/file
Then make sure it's named swap.img and in the /amigoxp/disks folder. Then, as root set amigo to boot live again by right clicking on the PowerApp and choose "reboot live". Or manually setup your fstab with a line for /dev/loop6 or uncomment the existing line.

The Amigo-XP login is handled by WDM on runlevel 5. If you want to use the KDE or GNOME login/display/session managers, you'll want to change your /etc/inittab to boot to runlevel 4 by default (or set to 3 for CLI login).
You'll also need to run 'xwmconfig' in order to choose your window manager (KWM)

Kuroyume, you'll also find XFCE which you were interested in before.
I do hope all of you will give the ROX desktop a really good try-out. I would use it just for the Archive program, if nothing else.
Using ROX helps me gets more work done. The problem has been to find the right programs to work with it to create a cohesive feeling and looking desktop. I need to write a short tip-sheet on how to get the most out of ROX.

i tried running KDE from WDM, and it just dumps me back to the CLI login, with no error message... i'm gonna try xwmconfig and running it from the CLI, to see if it gives me an error message.

About the ROX desktop and XFCE, i'm still trying to get everything running, and then i will choose what to use. Also, since my laptop is kind of my "linux sells tool" i want to have a lot of choices to show people the best of linux...

well. that's it for now, i'm off to finish a paper and then back to linux...
