Okay, I see the problem. this is because ROX-Filer and Window Maker are 'sharing' functions on the desktop.
Login as 'amigo' and do this:
1. Navigate to /usr/apps and right-click on ROX-Filer and choose 'Disable Pinboard' from the menu.
2. Right-click on the ROX-Filer Icon in the WindowMaker Dock (the Bluebird). Choose 'Settings'. A window opens with several options. In the box 'Application path and arguments' remove the last part of the entry:
-p=Default.
3. Make an 'orderly exit' from WindowMaker by right-clicking on the desktop and choose 'Exit', then 'Exit' again. When the confirmation window opens click the box for 'Save Workspace state'.
4. Then logout from 'amigo' and back in as 'root', and do:
umask 000; cp -avx /home/amigo /home/newusername
chown -R mark:users /home/newusername
5. Logout as 'root' and login to the new user account. Right click on the ROX-Filer DOCK Icon and restore the '-p=Default' entry to the 'Apllication path and arguments'. Save the changes. Navigate to /usr/apps and turn the pinboard back on bay right-clicking on ROX-Filer and choose 'Enable Pinboard' from the menu.
Now the icon for 'Home' should be correctly linked?

Thanks for your help gnashley.
However, think I must have another problem to fix first...
When I open up the window, now I see little boxes with a red 'X' across the top. I can still click on them and they'll work, but could this be an permissions issue?
The reason I say this is that when I navigated to /usr/apps I see nothing that directory....so can't do what you're suggesting...
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark, I had a similar problem. The problem went away when I logged out at the command prompt and logged in again. The problem might be a temporary glitch.

That usually comes from leaving a ROX-Filer window open and then saving the workspace. If you want the desktop to start with a ROX-Filer window open, put the proper command /usr/bin/rox in the 'Application path' window for the ROX icon. and then click the box above for 'Start application when WindowMaker starts'.
The thing is, that to make some changes (like putting a new apllication in the DOCK) to windowmaker you'll need to disable the pinboard so the whole desktop is under windowmaker's control. Then leave a clean desktop and do an orderly exit.
Under the 'Exit' menu you'll see that you can start fluxbox if you want to try that. If you want it to be your default window manager, run 'xwmconfig' and choose it from the menu.

I didn't see an option for 'Disable Pinboard.'
I went to /usr/apps and clicked the white area in the window. I also right clicked the titlebar. There are no folders in the directyr /usr/apps. When I clicked "options", I see a pane for Pinboard. There is no option for disabling the pinboard though; only for changing the background and text.

Do:
slocate -u
then:
slocate ROX-Filer
Navigate to it and right-click on the ROX-Filer and choose disable pinboard.

Tried doing what you suggest, but still have issues:
1) ROX-Filer Window that opens up still has those little square boxes with red 'X''s across the top
2) Need to get internet connection working
- I have DSL broadband service, use either my PCMCIA ethernet 10/100 card (also have a wireless PC Card)
- I checked the /etc/rc.d/rc.modules file and don't think I see what I have listed
Ethernet Cards: Linksys EtherFast 10/100 PC Card Model PCMPC100 or
AirLink+ Cardbus Network Adapter 10/100 PC Card
Wireless Card: D-Link Airplus XTreme G, Model DWL-G650
3) Need to get my external PCMCIA CDRW/DVD drive (EXP 2400P) working
- I checked the /etc/rc.d/rc.modules file and don't think I see what I have listed
4) Till I get my CD drive and internet connection working, it would be useful to access files off of my FAT 32 /dev/hda1 partition.
-How do I mount it?
5)Also, to shutdown, I use 'shutdown -r 1' is that good way to shutdown my laptop or ??
Will feel a lot better when I get the above straightened out...
If there are other resources for getting info on the above, would appreciate that too....
Thanks for any any all help!

Got some suggestions from someone on the Libretto Mailing List....
For Ethernet Cards:
"see /etc/pcmcia/config
card "Linksys EtherFast PCMPC100 V2 Fast Ethernet"
version "Linksys", "EtherFast 10/100 PC Card (PCMPC100 V2)"
#manfid 0x0149, 0xc1ab
bind "pcnet_cs"
card "Linksys EtherFast PCMPC100 V3 Fast Ethernet"
version "Linksys", "EtherFast 10/100 PC Card (PCMPC100 V3)"
#manfid 0x0149, 0xc1ab
bind "axnet_cs"
>AirLink+ Cardbus Network Adapter 10/100 PC Card
>
Don't know.
What is the output of "lspci -v" with this card ?"
Tried "lspci -v" but get error message: command not found
For CD Drive:
"Get the info about your CD, with "cardctl ident"
and then add lines in your /etc/pcmcia/config
and make a paragraph like these:
card "ATA/IDE Fixed Disk"
function fixed_disk
bind "ide-cs"
card "SunDisk SDCFB-6"
function fixed_disk
bind "ide-cs"
card "Freecom IQ-drive"
version "FREECOM", "PCCARD-IDE"
bind "ide-cs"
if it don't work, send also the output of "dump_cis" "
Well, tried typing "cardctl ident" and "dump_cis" but get message that 'command not found' for both...
Is the reason that I get the 'command not found' because these commands are not in Amigo?
Or do I have to be in a certain directory to get them to work or??
Thanks,
Mark

Install pciutils to get those commands.
There is a line in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules for the pcnet compatible cards.
Try 'insmod pcnet' and then uncomment the line.
If Amigo is installed on hda1 then you can see and have read-only access to the files there in the /DOS directory. Otherwise make a mount point and mount it manually:
mkdir /mnt/hda1
mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1
I use 'poweroff' to shutdown, but you can also run WmShutdown or minicontrol and turn your machine off with just a couple of mouse clicks.

Thanks for the suggestions, gnashley...
Will try those out and report back...
In the meantime, have been doing my homework and downloaded the documents referenced in 'pppsetup' window from:
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/docs/howto/PPP-HOWTO
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/docs/faqs/PPP-FAQ
LOTS of good info in there....printing out document so I can study it....
Thanks,
Mark

Well....got online!!!
Just installed various modules as suggested and voila!
Also, seems that I got my CD drive recognized...
Still have an issue with ROX-Filer and those little square boxes with red 'X''s in them across the top of the open window and empty directories when I click on them if I'm logged in as 'amigo' user....
One tip to other linux noobs like me....spend a few minutes using the 'pkgtool', even if you are not installing anything.
The reason is that it shows you a nice little synopsis of each package available for install in the directory you're looking in. It really helped give me a better idea of what
A) the packages that have already been installed as part of amigo are all about and
B) what the other packages that have not been installed yet are for
You can flip through a lot of packages this way very quickly.
Thanks,
Mark

The ROX-Filer APP is located in /usr/local/apps
You can enable or disable the ROX pinboard(desktop) by right clicking on the ROX-Filer icon and choosing enable/disable.
To get rid of the little red x's first disable the pinboard as aboce, then right-click the WindowMaker DOCK icon for ROX(the bluebird) and choose settings.
In the window that pops up, make sure the first entry under 'Program path and arguments' is like this:
/usr/local/bin/rox
Then do an 'orderly exit' from WindowMaker by choosing 'Exit' and then 'Exit' again from the desktop menu. Choose 'Save session' from the confirmation window and click 'Okay' or hit <ENTER>. Then type 'startx' from the command line to restart X.
Open the WindowMaker Preferences tool (second icon from top right) and choose the last box on the right for various assorted configurations, including turn on/off automatic saving of your session.
You get the little red x's from having shutdown windowmaker with a ROX window still open. Turn off session saving in windowmaker to avoid this.
