/tmp files

What controls how often /tmp is cleaned out? I believe it is removing files over 3 days old and directories over 7. Is there any way to change this for specific files?

nothing usually...... you may have skulker running. check your root crontab.

(skulker is not enabled by default, most admins wont use it cos its fairly dangerous).

Where did you see that, Risk91 ? I'm pretty sure on each of my AIX systems since several years, no file has been removed from /tmp without me or a collegue of mine having removed it.
I very often use /tmp as a transitional saving filesystem, or my favourite scripts from the present week, and I would be really furious if my /tmp/doit.sh from last week would happen to disappear.

I have a box running an application from a third party vendor. It's running AIX 5.1, however, the installation of AIX was an install provided by the vendor. I assume they have a script in there somewhere that is doing this "cleanup".

I was also curious as to what was going on as this was not the case with any of the other boxes I have worked with.

In a lot of other unix systems, /tmp is cleaned up at each reboot.
This is not the case with AIX.
