How do i start samba in AIX? i tired google and could not find out how to. Good news it that i got it as well as webmin installed so thanks to every one who helped with that.

Is samba installed? It does not come by default on AIX.

Depending on which package you download and install, or if you do it from source will determin how to run it.

Some packages will mkssys it into the SRC (System Resource Controller) for you and others, as well as the sources package, you will likely have to create a script in /etc/rc.d/rc2.d to start.

did you get an rc.samba with your samba installation ?

if so then ./rc.samba start ...

this is a perl script that starts smdb and nmdb with the -D flag....

What is the script that i will have to write also as for the ./rc.samba start it did not work. I did install it from bullfreeware.com

yeah, of course its not in your home directory, did you run a find command to locate it ?

the "./" was to indicate that you were in the directory where the rc.samba script was located.

this command will find it if its on your system, run as root.

find / -name rc.samba 2>/dev/null

I need to learn how to start and configure samba on AIX 5.2. I installed samba level 3.0.4.0 on AIX 5.2. all information I found so far only apply to older level of samba (2.x). Please help. Thanks. Van

@Tranvan : read the paper I mentionned here above, it shows how to start Samba on AIX, it's quite classical : copy the sample configuration file, startup the daemons and the use the GUI.

I just did it a gain, only page 12 the documentation is enough : it tells you how to update /etc/inetd.conf in order to startup the daemons, and then use swat in order to configure users, shares and printers.
