Some Useful AIX Commands for Administrator and User
 

Hi,


I am new to AIX. Actually, I have been moved to a different project wherein I have to work on AIX server.

I searched online for some beginner's guide but didn't find any useful start-up guide.

Could you please explain some frequently used commands from the point of administration of AIX?

I found that top command is not there. We use topas on AIX. I have also seen screen command.

Please suggest some AIX commands to get familiar with AIX.

Last but not least, there is smitty. This innocently looking command is one of the most powerful tools in AIX. It allows you to enter a menu from which you can access most of the features and commands in AIX in a very user friendly way. Great for beginners to learn the commands as well as for advanced users not capable remembering 20 commandline options certain commands require :).

IBM is famous for its documentation, called the redbooks. They cover enormous area of expertise, you will find them here

Good luck with AIX. It's a nice system. Sometimes pretty stubborn, but also pretty solid.
