Problem updating Hard Drive Microcode from the Diag CD on 7044-170

Hello,

I'm hoping that the experts on this board will be able to help me out. I am trying to update the Microcode on a Hard Drive using the IBM Diagnostic CD (filename: CD53030.iso). Here is the info on the Box:

Server: 7044-170
AIX Software Installed: None

The process works fine until I get to the Install Microcode screen. I insert the CD with the Microcode updates when instructed and press <Enter>. The system will search the CD and then it will tell me that no valid microcode update file was found. I have unpacked the RPM files found on the original microcode CD, but the system still will not see the files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Jon

What type of hard drive is it?
I has a quick look at the microcode update doc for the DNES and it describes the proceedure but after the diag CD boot it expects to find the microcode on floppy, not another CD.

Thanks for the reply.

The hard drive is a Seagate 36.4GB SCSI drive. Part Number: ST336607LW

Everyone I have spoken to so far has advised me to try loading the firmware off of a Diskette, but I don't get that option. As soon as I select the Hard Drive that I want to update, it prompts me to insert the disk with the firmware into CD0. I don't get an option to select where I want to pull the information from. I went into the diagnostics and verified that the system sees the Floppy Drive. I am at a loss on this one...

The doc says disette for a service mode update:
http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmd...are/146lp.html

Checkout section 2.4.1.2.2 and if it does not work post the console output and point out where it fails.

If the disk is on a raid adapter then follow the next bit.

If the disk is not in rootvg then do it from AIX diags - and use the AIX download, not the rpm.
