Hi there,

MPIO is included in recent AIX versions by default. You may need a Path Control Module (PCM) for the specific storage from the vendor, though. Check out the lspath, mkpath, chpath & rmpath commands, and the IBM documentation at http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/ai...%2Fdevmpio.htm.

Good luck!

Multi-pathing is needed, for example, if you want to run two or more VIO servers on a frame serving an LPAR. As another example, you could also use it if you have one VIO server connected to two fabrics via two discrete fiber cards. I've not had to configure it on P5/P6/P7 hardware running VIO2.x and higher with AIX 5.3.x and higher. You will need to make sure that the disk you have exposed to the VIO server has it's reserve_policy attribute set to no_reserve:

chdev -dev hdisk123 -attr reserve_policy=no_reserve
