When I install a product say MultiLink on my IBM- AIX 5.2 or 5.3 which uses a serial port the one end of serial cable is connected to UPS and other end of which is connected to com ports of the AIX machine i.e tty0 or tty1, it does not detect the port i.e it displays message “COM Port not found, Do you want to continue?”. When I manually added a port say tty0 using SMIT tool then also it doesn’t allow me to do a serial configuration.

Please suggest for the same , what changes should I do in my AIX machine so that serial configuration is possible.

After connecting try the command
cfgmgr -v
I am Not sure whether this will work or not
anyway the command is non-distructive

Maybe the prouct needs a particular configuration for the serial port? I've had no end of problems in the past trying to get exactly the right combination of serial port settings to get something to work correctly. They can all be set through smit, so try and track down from the software manual.
