Do you need a Domain controller in a NIS domain?

 Hi there

I am trying to set up NIS on 2 RS6000's as slaves and a W2K master. Microsoft says that the master need to be a DC. BUT is this only true in a mixed Windows and UNIX environment? or does it still need to be a DC in a UNIX only environment?

Please help!

Thanks

Ryan

If you want to be inside a domain, you need a Domain Controller. I guess this is a general networking issue, not only for Linux or Windows or Mixed environmet.

Thanks Zorba4

We want to sync passwords on the RS6000's using the a W2K master and NIS but will this work if the master is not a DC?

Nis Domain

If you want to sync NIS/DC password, I think the better choice is to have an Open LDAP Server :p
If you only want a NIS Domain try to set up the master on a RS/6000
You probably may have a slave on W2K
