cron daemon doesn't start from inittab, but says already running!!

When i try to run forcefully /usr/sbin/cron (AIX 4.2 Ver) it says it is already running. we cannot see in 'ps -ef|grep cron' display. Would somebody help?

are you sure 'lsitab -a | grep -i cron" doesn't have any output?
what happens if you kill it? does it respawn?

try checking in /etc/ for files or scripts that has cron entries:


grep -li cron /etc/*
