Oooo! First question for this topic. Ok this isn't exactly an AIX question.... But it is an eserver question. I have an AS/400 (it says eserver on the front of it) and we use IBM's Client Access in Windows for our end users to access it. Is there a good client for Linux (free would be good!) to use? Plain ol telnet isn't exactly what I'm looking for. You don't have use of some important function keys and when you maximize it you can't enlarge the text as the window gets bigger. Thanks.
I didn't see ssh for as/400 and that is not really what I'm looking for. I want an alternative to Client Access. I can navigate it with telnet, but when I have a lot to do in there it is a pain and I just have to use Client Access.
I am confused. You initially said that you wanted an access method that was "free", that had "maximizable" windows and that could be installed on this as/400. secure shell will not be just for the as/400...it covers a wide range of os's...what os does the as/400 run? If it is aix, then this will most definitely work, as I have used this method of access for our SP2 for many years. You really don't want to use telnet (unless this is strictly an internal network, which is also risky too). Telnet has no encryption capabilities, so passwords and user activity is occuring freely in the open. Not safe.
AS/400 is the OS. I understand the implications of telnet vs ssh. It is purely internal and we can't use ssh because this would adversly affect some other operations.
