can I use AIX plot(1B) format files in linux (plotutils?)

Hello AIX forum -

I use a data analysis program which runs on AIX 4.3 which outputs plots in binary plot(1B) format. I can display/manipulate these files using the "plot" command in AIX. I can also do the same on Sun workstations (SunOS5.9) with the "plot" utility in SunOS.

My problem is - What do I need to do to display these files from my Linux box?

The file format seems standard - AIX and Sun boxes can both read it. Is there some Linux program that can deal with plot(1B) as well?

So far I have tried the gnu plotutils package, which I think is the closest linux plot utility to the "plot" on AIX and SunOS. I get this error:
"plot: unrecognized command `0x90' encountered in input"

I have tried using the -h and -l (Options for Backward Compatibility) in plotutils but I get the same error.

Perhaps this is a big-endian vs. little-endian issue?

lpr -g is supposed to denote plot(1b) format for printing, but that is about all the documentation I can find for linux.

Anyone else worked with these type of files before?
any advice would be much appreciated

thanks,
jk

Hi,
I am having the same problem.... Brlcad produces .plot files which I can't print under Linux.
It looks like to me that a plot command does not exist in Linux.
Have you managed to get it sorted out?
Regards,
Pier

endian

Linux is little endian while the other *NIXs are big endian.
If it's a binary file, you'll run into this issue...

you could try converting endian-ness:
