This thread is for tracking the development of the 4MLinux 36 series.
4MLinux 36.0 BETA released.
4MLinux 36.0 BETA is ready for testing. Basically, at this stage of development, 4MLinux BETA has the same features as 4MLinux STABLE, but it provides a huge number of updated packages.
Road map:
December 2020 -> BETA
March 2021 -> STABLE
June 2021 -> OLD STABLE
September 2021 -> EOL
Antivirus Live CD is an official 4MLinux fork including the ClamAV scanner. It's designed for users who need a lightweight live CD, which will help them to protect their computers against viruses. The latest version 36.0-0.103.0 is based on 4MLinux 36.0 BETA and ClamAV 0.103.0.
BakAndImgCD is an official 4MLinux fork, which has been designed to perform the following two tasks: data backup and disk imaging. The 4MLinux Backup Scripts make use of FSArchiver, GNU ddrescue, Partclone, Partimage, rsync, and other utilities. The output files (archives and images) can be optionally compressed and sent to a remote sever (using Ethernet, WiFi, PPP or PPPoE). This release is based on the 4MLinux Backup Scripts 36.0.
This is a major release based on the 4MLinux Server 36.0, meaning that the components of the LAMP server are now: Linux 5.99, Apache 2.4.46, MariaDB 10.5.8, and PHP (both 5.6.40 and 7.4.15).
You can update your TheSSS by executing the "zk update" command (fully automatic process).
The status of the 4MLinux 36.0 series has been changed to STABLE. Edit your documents with LibreOffice 7.1.2.2 and GNOME Office (AbiWord 3.0.4, GIMP 2.10.22, Gnumeric 1.12.48), share your files using DropBox 114.4.426, surf the Internet with Firefox 87.0 and Chromium 88.0.4324.96, send emails via Thunderbird 78.9.0, enjoy your music collection with Audacious 4.0.5, watch your favorite videos with VLC 3.0.12 and mpv 0.32.0, play games powered by Mesa 20.3.1 and Wine 6.1. You can also setup the 4MLinux LAMP Server (Linux 5.4.99, Apache 2.4.46, MariaDB 10.5.8, PHP 5.6.40 and PHP 7.4.15). Perl 5.32.0, Python 2.7.18, and Python 3.8.6 are also available.
As always, the new major release has some new features. Support for NBD (network block device) protocol has been added. Support for exFAT file system is now available via exfatprogs and GParted. New applications: GTkHash (program to calculate checksums) and VeraCrypt (popular encryption tool). Additionally, UNetbootin (utility to create live USB) is now available out of the box. All Flash Player dependencies have been removed from the 4MLinux repositories.
I would like to install 4MLinux 36 on an existing partition and will dual boot with Linux Mint. I already have GRUB installed with Linux Mint. Can I install 4M without the boot loader. Then boot to Linux Mint and run update-grub to find and add 4m.
I downloaded 4MLinux-36.0-64bit.iso and to date have tried to 'burn' to a USB that previously booted 4MLinux-35.2-64bit.iso with no problems. However, after trying "USB Image Writer" and dd in LinuxMint 20 as well as UnetBootin in Elementary 5.1 both using the full partition and creating a 1.5GB partition on the 4GB USB -- I cannot boot using this USB on either machines, however, the v36 ISO file starts fine in both machines when run in VirtualBox.
I have checked in Gparted that the boot flag is active as well.

No, you can't. Install GRUB in 4MLinux and use it to boot to Mint where you will be able to run the update-grub command

Help?
Thanks in advance!
I'll check it in a few hours when I am back at home.

I was unable to reproduce the errors reported by you. Both UNetbootin and the dd command worked well for me. Make sure that everything is OK with your USB stick.
This is a minor (point) release based on the 4MLinux Server 36.1, meaning that the components of the LAMP server are now: Linux 5.4.115, Apache 2.4.47, MariaDB 10.5.8, and PHP (both 5.6.40 and 7.4.18).

After downloading v37 and having the same thing occur, I think I have found the problem... When booting up with a written ISO using multiboot, dd or USB image writer, the BIOS does not see the USB as an available drive to boot from. The last time I saw that, I tried writing again from image writer and saw that the partition is hidden, but no other ISO does that???
I took screenshots but there is no image insert here execpt for links and mine are local. If you want them, PM me your email and I will send to you.
