This thread is for tracking the development of the 4MLinux 29 series.
4MLinux 29.0 Core BETA released.
This is a core system (only about 10 MB in size) for the 4MLinux 29 series. The system includes: the Linux kernel 4.19.19, GNU C Library 2.28, and BusyBox 1.30.1. The 4MLinux 29 series uses GNU Compiler Collection 8.2.0 to compile programs designed for the i686 architecture.
Despite its extremely small size, 4MLinux Core supports all possible boot options: BIOS with 32-bit CPU, BIOS with 64-bit CPU, UEFI with 32-bit firmware, and UEFI with 64-bit firmware.
4MLinux 29.0 BETA is ready for testing. Basically, at this stage of development, 4MLinux BETA has the same features as 4MLinux STABLE, but it provides a huge number of updated packages.
Road map:
March 2019 -> BETA
June 2019 -> STABLE
September 2019 -> OLD STABLE
December 2019 -> EOL
how do I Start the desktop for that flavor
I boot 4MLinux from and .iso into VM but after bootup its says changing password for root, new password in command session but no desktop session started I'm using v29 or release 29. I'm trying to bootup to research if I can use it's netfilter or firewall as virtual firewall for multiple IP prefix while running dhcp with static lease for some MACs within the virtual environment.

Reason: detailed
LiveCD (or LiveUSB) should start a Xorg/JWM session automatically (no action required from your side).
Please give us a more detailed description of your problem.
oops my bad, I didn't notice core system involves only console or terminal version and not Desktop mode Still i'm wondering if 10 OS can have Desktop mode

I believe it can (small Linux kernel with minimal functionality, Xvesa display server, ...). However, even if it works, this would be a proof of concept rather than a real operating system.
Hey Zbigniew. Quick question. Why does 4MLinux run as root user by default? I know Puppy Linux does the same (can't think of any other distro that does this). But isn't this potentially dangerous instead of having a user drop to a sudo prompt like in Debian/Ubuntu?

Antivirus Live CD is an official 4MLinux fork including the ClamAV scanner. It's designed for users who need a lightweight live CD, which will help them to protect their computers against viruses. The latest version 29.0-0.101.2 is based on 4MLinux 29.0 BETA and ClamAV 0.101.2.
BakAndImgCD is an official 4MLinux fork, which has been designed to perform the following two tasks: data backup and disk imaging. The 4MLinux Backup Scripts make use of FSArchiver, GNU ddrescue, Partclone, Partimage, rsync, and other utilities. The output files (archives and images) can be optionally compressed and sent to a remote sever (using Ethernet, WiFi, PPP or PPPoE). This release is based on the 4MLinux Backup Scripts 29.0.

This is a major release based on the 4MLinux Server 29.0, meaning that the components of the LAMP server are now: Linux 4.19.41, Apache 2.4.39, MariaDB 10.3.14, and PHP (both 5.6.40 and 7.3.5).
You can update your TheSSS by executing the "zk update" command (fully automatic process).
The status of the 4MLinux 29.0 series has been changed to STABLE. Edit your documents with LibreOffice 6.2.4.2 and GNOME Office (AbiWord 3.0.2, GIMP 2.10.10, Gnumeric 1.12.44), share your files using DropBox 73.4.118, surf the Internet with Firefox 66.0.5 and Chromium 74.0.3729.108, send emails via Thunderbird 60.7.0, enjoy your music collection with Audacious 3.10.1, watch your favorite videos with VLC 3.0.6 and mpv 0.29.1, play games powered by Mesa 18.3.1 and Wine 4.7. You can also setup the 4MLinux LAMP Server (Linux 4.19.41, Apache 2.4.39, MariaDB 10.3.14, PHP 5.6.40 and PHP 7.3.5). Perl 5.28.1, Python 2.7.15, and Python 3.7.1 are also available.
As always, the new major release has some new features: Audacious available out of the box, a new desktop sub-menu called “Office” (with AbiWord, Gnumeric, LazPaint), spellcheck functionality added to Sylpheed and HexChat, improved LibreOffice installation script, better support for MINIX file system (via util-linux and GParted), much improved 3D acceleration in Quake2. And finally, the 4MServer now includes PHP 7.3 with NaCl cryptography support.
