The 4MLinux 25 series.

This thread is for tracking the development of the 4MLinux 25 series.

4MLinux 25.0 Core BETA released.

This is a core system (only about 10 MB in size) for the 4MLinux 25 series. The system includes: the Linux kernel 4.14.18, GNU C Library 2.26, and BusyBox 1.27.2. The 4MLinux 25 series uses GNU Compiler Collection 7.2.0 to compile programs designed for the i686 architecture.

Despite its extremely small size, 4MLinux Core supports all possible boot options: BIOS with 32-bit CPU, BIOS with 64-bit CPU, UEFI with 32-bit firmware, and UEFI with 64-bit firmware.

4MLinux 25.0 BETA released.

4MLinux 25.0 BETA is ready for testing. Basically, at this stage of development, 4MLinux BETA has the same features as 4MLinux STABLE, but it provides a huge number of updated packages, including major changes in the core of the system, which now uses the GNU C Library 2.26 and the GNU Compiler Collection 7.2.0.

Road map:
March 2018 -> BETA
July 2018 -> STABLE
November 2018 -> OLD STABLE
March 2019 -> EOL

BakAndImgCD 25.0 released.

BakAndImgCD is an official 4MLinux fork, which has been designed to perform the following two tasks: data backup and disk imaging. The output files (archives and images) can be optionally compressed and sent to a remote sever (using Ethernet, WiFi, PPP or PPPoE).
This release is based on the 4MLinux Backup Scripts 25.0, which now make use of Zstandard (developed by Facebook) to compress backup archives and disk images. Midnight Commander has also been patched to be able to handle the "tar.zst" archives. Additionally, this is the first release that includes FSArchiver (which, by the way, is also able to use Zstandard for compressing its filesystem images).

4MLinux 25.0 STABLE released.

The status of the 4MLinux 25.0 series has been changed to STABLE. Edit your documents with LibreOffice 6.0.4.2 and GNOME Office (AbiWord 3.0.2, GIMP 2.10.0, Gnumeric 1.12.40), share your files using DropBox 47.4.74, surf the Internet with Firefox 60.0 and Chromium 66.0.3359.26, stay in touch with your friends via Thunderbird 52.7.0 and Skype for Web, enjoy your music collection with Audacious 3.9, watch your favorite videos with VLC 3.0.2 and mpv 0.27.0, play games powered by Mesa 17.2.5 and Wine 3.8. You can also setup the 4MLinux LAMP Server (Linux 4.14.39, Apache 2.4.33, MariaDB 10.2.14, PHP 5.6.36 and PHP 7.2.5). Perl 5.26.1, Python 2.7.14, and Python 3.6.4 are also available.

As always, a new major release comes with some new features: better handling of CA certificates (no need to accept them manually), full support for Zstandard data compression algorithm (4MLinux Backup Scripts), login screen can now be disabled (it's a response to user requests), GIMP 2.10 with full support for scanners and digital cameras, Python3 with Meson and Ninja (this is now, de facto, the main build system in GNOME/GTK+ ecosystem).
The default media player in 4MLinux is now mpv (with GNOME MPV). Other players (MPlayer, SMPlayer, xine and VLC) are available as downloadable extensions. Good news for modern computers: all these applications are now able to make use of hardware video acceleration (via VA-API and VDPAU). Good news for old computers: MPlayer, xine and VLC can play videos without X Window System (use Midnight Commander to select files to play).

What are the checksums for 4MLinux-25.1-32bit.iso? Could you provide all checksums on your website?

There's checksums for up to 4MLinux-25.0-32bit.iso in the 25 ISO range.

Edit: I see the md5sum for my ISO @ https://linuxiarze.pl/download_4mlinux/ but I'm not sure if it's official.

Hi Zbigniew.

In the screenshot attached, it shows a download link for 4MLinux-25.1-32bit.iso but the latest stable checksum is only for 4MLinux-25.0-32bit.iso.
