Unhappy Some server questions?

Hello,

Maybe a stupid question: but I can't seem to figure out how the ftp-server in 4mLinux works. You can start it yeah, but what then?
Can you use it for transferring files from one computer to another? Or is it for remotely logging in to access your files on the server?

There is more: this is the server-stuff in 4mLinux which I don't really understand:
dnsd --> BIND (standalone)
ftpd --> ProFTPD (standalone)
nfsd --> NFS daemon (standalone)
proxyd --> Polipo (standalone)
smtpd --> Postfix (standalone)
sshd --> OpenSSH (standalone)
telnetd --> BusyBox (via inetd)

Can somebody explain it a little bit?

There are many websites that explain how all that server stuff works and would suggest looking up these topics on wikipedia. Trying to explain how everything works would take many pages.

Basically ftp, ssh, smtp and telnet use client server model. A client application connects to a remote server to perform a function. Just like you use a web browser (client) to connect to LinuxQuestions website (server). ftp is for transferring files, telnet (not secure) and ssh (secure) are for remote login and smtp is for mail.
