Skype

Hi, when I open Skype I get the following message:

"Skype

Sorry, this version of Skype is not supported anymore.

Go to Community Forum"

I removed Skype from the opt file and re-installed it from the 4mlinux repository, however got
the same message when opening Skype.

Will there be a new Skype version on the repository soon?

Kind regards!

Go to Community Forum???

ps:
you know skype is not open source and provided for linux as-is by microsoft?
you simply have to upgrade.

But he went to the Community Forum! He's asking about a distribution-specific package, so the official 4MLinux forum is the right place to ask the question.

Hi,

The "old Skype" was retired by Microsoft. Open your terminal and force the update by executing:
Code:

4mlinuX getskype
Note: this must be 4mlinuX (and not 4mlinux).

Have a nice weekend !

Solved and thanks for the speedy reply as allways!
Dobre weekend!

The "old Skype" might have been still running in the system try.

I guess he knows. Here is the output of the installation script:
Code:

root@4MLinux:~$ 4mlinuX getskype
Skype is a proprietary software package.
Visit http://www.skype.com for details.
Do you wish to download and install Skype now (y/n)?:

are you saying the message quoted was generated by 4mlinux itself, and not by skype?

in that case i apologize.

i never posted to 4mlinux subforum because the only thing i know about it is that its packaging is different from anything i ever used...
i thought this case is so simple that i can answer - apparently i was wrong.
in retrospect, it does seem a bi weird that skype would ask you to go to their community forum to upgrade...

Hi,

Generated by Skype, of course. However the upstream offers 64-bit Skype only, while 4MLinux is a 32-bit system, so it should be rather obvious that 4MLinux cannot use the vanilla version of Skype, but it must maintain its own solution.
