I voted Nagios Core because it's still the nicest tool I've used.

I'd have voted collectd but I don't consider it exactly a network monitoring tool, more a metrics collecting tool, as you probably use it in conjunction with another tool like grafana to provide nice dashboards and alerting.

But, if collectd is here, graphite (https://github.com/graphite-project) and related projects (https://github.com/grafana/carbon-relay-ng, https://github.com/go-graphite/go-carbon) should also make an appereance.

Personally, I monitor network activity with BitMeterOS...

Runs in a tab in your browser. Which is a logical place for it...
