Bill Joy, the original BSD developer, was one of the early Sun employees though.

The whole eBPF world seems to have exploded into doing wondrous things, but I don't think it fits in any category....

LQ Polls

To vote, visit https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ce-awards-128/ and select your entry in each category. If you have any suggestions for additions or modifications to poll nominees, please post in the thread for the poll in question. Any general suggestions should be posted in this thread.

A couple comments:

* We do realize that some polls have nominees that are not directly comparable. There are over 35 polls. If we got down to the granularity some members would like to see, there would be 100's if not 1000's of polls. That would be a net decline in the usefulness of the awards IMHO. We try to strike the best balance we can, and do modify the polls and nominees every year, based on feedback. If you have any suggestions on how the polls can be improved, do let us know.

* There are no set in stone guidelines for voting. Our recommendation is to base your vote on which application you found most valuable to you in 2018, along with which project you feel made the largest improvements in 2018. That being said, in the end the criteria is up to you.

* Posting a comment is optional, but do be aware that for your vote to count you have to select an option and click the "Vote Now" button (regardless of whether you have left a comment or not).

* You must have at least one post to be able to vote.

* All polls will close on February 12th at 12PM LQST.

* Results are not available until after the polls close.

Congratulations to all nominees and good luck!

No matter how many options you include, someone will show up to tell you that they're most effective with a paper clip, a nine volt battery and a steady hand, instead. My apologies to JWZ.

I've always wanted to vote for AutoKey, a desktop automation tool, but haven't seen a category it would fit in.

I would like to see an office suite category.
So far the only ones I am aware of are StarOffice (LibreOffice, OpenOffice, ...), Calligra, GNOME's office suite, and siag.

Agreed.

There's also SoftMakers FreeOffice (which is amazing for the price, and now can save in MS xml formats not just open), WPS Office (Kingsoft) which used to be good, but the latest version has left me highly uninpressed, and OnlyOffice Desktop Editors, which if working with MS Office, and mostly simple files, have the best compatibility of any office suite I've ever seen, but they do lack many of the advanced capabilities of the larger suite (libreoffice, softwmaker, etc).

We removed it a few years ago as it was consistently one of the least competitive categories.

Unhappy

Looks like this year no E-mail was sent out about voting on any category. I just found out now from the MX Linux forum about it.
