I don't like working with multiple workspaces/desktops, so I don't value it as a core DE function.

Coincidentally, I also require typing in Japanese. I found this difficult at first on my first try, but later found it to be very simple on LM.

I recall doing it in less than a minute before on LM 17.3 and LM 18.1. I've never done this on KDE since it doesn't run well via Virtualbox nor on any of my "disposable" hardware.

Like you, I value a desktop more based on what it includes in proportion to what I need. The only thing I can say KDE has that Cinnamon doesn't is a "launcher" (i.e. Krunner).

Currently, Cinnamon doesn't ship with any type of launcher and I think that puts it a step behind all modern DE. Unity, Gnome, Xfce, KDE Plasma, and now LXQt all have launchers.

I'm trying to make them include one by default or fork one into Cinnamon but it's not getting much support. There are 3rd party options but they sometimes don't work per release.

In the end, both Cinnamon and KDE Plasma can be considered "modern" desktops and offer identical things—albeit not to the same extent as we've pointed out. KDE probably has more built-in apps, but Cinnamon doesn't lose out by many desktop-specific components as a more niche desktop would, like LXDE.

I plan to load OpenSUSE with KDE on my future laptop 'cause I like the distro and the desktop. If I had to choose, however, I would still vote for Cinnamon. :hattip:
