Database of the Year
Always a hotly debated topic.

Here's my hot debate contribution: PostgreSQL is the better MariaDB in every category I could imagine. The only thing that sucks in it is the upgrade procedure; but then again, that's difficult with every production database.

would like to see orientdb included

Usually I vote Sqlite for oh so many reasons.... Small, extremely fast, rock solid, powerful, ...
But this year I'm voting Postgres as they have been adding a flock of nifty stuff in the last few releases. |
Yeah, Postgres definitely did a good job this year. Absolutely my vote.
|
I don't use Postgres because I'm heavily entrenched in mysql/mariadb and have no compelling reasons to change....if it ain't broke... Maybe one day I'll migrate....
|
Why no MS SQL - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/sql-...ql-server-2017 ? Imported same data with same indices, etc, and on pretty much all queries it ran faster than PostgreSQL.
Price is a b****, but man oh man is it good. |
SQL Server has been added.

We prune nominees that have gotten 0 votes, but with sufficient demand they can always be re-added.

note, MongoDB and Redis are now significant ones in the Free/Libre Software world

I just use MySQL everywhere. They say there are better options, like PostgreSQL. Perhaps, but MySQL does all I need (except filesystem-based snapshot backups with quiesce, last time I checked).
