OwnCloud here. I have been using it quite successfully and with little issues.

Had tons of issues w/ ownCloud on my NAS. Eventually settled on Seafile and love it. Excellent Android app as well.

I was looking for an alternative to Dropbox, and after some research I decided on Syncthing.

So far works well, both on desktop and Android. I'm planning to also run it on a private server, to have my own "cloud" under my control.

ownCloud update...

I think the ownCloud users who missed what happened should check out https://nextcloud.com/about ;-)

TL;DR: the ownCloud founder and core developers walked away from the company and started a new company; the community joined them. ownCloud, Inc closed its US doors, the German part was sold to a real-estate investor and claims everything is fine and dandy. Find some development statistics here - and be sure to check github etc to judge for yourself.

Please do note I'm deeply biassed as I was community manager for ownCloud and went with Frank and the others to Nextcloud.

You can find loads of links to press articles and blogs and interviews with more details.

Nextcloud FTW

My vote is for Nextcloud. I'm previously an ownCloud user, however since the management/dev team jumped to form Nextcloud, the dev cycle has been more aggressive at Nextcloud and new features and fixes are coming out all the time. I've just built a new Nextcloud box and migrated the files from my legacy ownCloud. Runs like a dream.

cheers, wizdude.
