What's your preferred application to listen to audio?

VLC, as it is the best on the list.
I am personally using Mplayer for quite some time and I am really happy with it. Unfortunately it is not in the list of possible answers.

DeadBeef. It was recommended to me by a member here, and it ended up being perfect.

rokytnji 12-28-2016 01:47 PM

Voted XMMS.

Edit: But I use mplayer command line for online radio stations <using a scripted file from the internet> and moc also <.pls files>.

stanvan 12-28-2016 03:09 PM

VLC, but also like Clementine.

thim 12-28-2016 03:16 PM

moc (i am also using audacious, amarok)

Most used is xmms, so that got my vote - though I do use audacious as well, depending on which is installed - plus mpg123 via mc. :)

Pragha. Simple but logical.

Always been a Rhythmbox fan. Audacious is decent as well. I didn't even know xmms was even still in development. I've not used it in probably 10yrs, and seemed to recall it's development coming to an end back then.

Audacious is where it's at! Oh and qmmp too is quite good. Both of which support LADSPA plugins.

Runner up would Nightingale, yes I still use it because with the MLyrics add-on it's the only audio player that I know of that first reads and displays the lyrics stored in the mp3 file. This is particularly useful for uncommon songs and mixes which other players and their online lyric services usually don't find.

Even though it's slowing going to the wayside, Banshee has the most complete feel to it.

wolsonjr 01-03-2017 07:46 PM

MPlayer is still my choice; local media, streaming, recording, it does it all(most, about 98%)

aguador 01-05-2017 03:20 PM

AmaroK would top my list if it were not KDE dependent, so I went with Clementine. Exaile's interface doesn't do it for me.

I think the list should include guayadeque, not as well known but light and slick.

Guayadeque was included in the past and was removed after receiving zero votes for multiple years.

I use Banshee and MusicBrainz Picard to organize music, in case some tags / cover pictures etc. are missing, and I've used many audio ripping softwares because in some cases one works and another one does not, in other cases it's the opposite.

But for actually playing the music - SMPlayer.
