Koffice

Calligra gets my vote - suprisingly usable for my basic Office Suite needs (I use Google Docs nearly as much).
Libre Office is good, possibly better for more frequent usagage and MS Office compatibility.
Have to admit to not even touching Open Office for a few years now.

Cheers, Nick

There should be a Word Processor of the year category, where people could vote for LibO Writer, OOo Writer, LyX, Abiword.

Unfortunately, MS Office is still a necessity for me. Borking other people's MS Office files with edits in open source software does not go down well.

Emacs is missing from that poll!

Two suites Failed me this year LO and OOO
Libra Office generaly very good but .. it displays some diagrams incorrectly from doc this is really hard to find.. but it's persistent.
Open Office - very dramatic degradation of suite quality.. "stable" releases suffered from double text fields text, sudden closedown without any messages or system errors. Older versions was way more stable.

Gnome Office?

Technically not really a suite, but Gimp, AbiWord, and Gnumeric handle my needs pretty well.

I like Calligra a lot, nice to see new things in this world.

Timothy Miller 01-11-2014 07:46 PM

I'll only use Kingsoft's alpha of their office suite. Even though it's an alpha, more stable than Calligra in my experience, more modern than OpenOffice, and FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR faster than OpenOffice or Libreoffice.

sunnydrake 01-12-2014 04:11 AM

checked Calligra and KingSoft both are disaster
Calligra even refused to open xls,docs.. (yes path was $HOME name was number.ext).. i don't see any improvemets in UI comparing to earler versions.
Kingsoft .. well interface is MS office 10 .. but it's bugged down and in very early alfa state.. freeze, terminates,do not edit diagrams in presentation, could not find construct diagrams in "excel" , etc..

not much choice here, LibreOffice

I found Libreoffice opens numerous formats, does not crash, looks good, creates PDF, uses a known GUI, and prints well...

+1

Although, to the extent possible, I eschew office suites, sometimes you just gotta conform to the demands/constraints of bloody MS users, especially in the corporate world.

In Libreoffice, there is an option to save in MS Office format and to create PDF.
