I voted for XMonad, but E17 finally getting released must shake things up...

Openbox

cowlitzron 12-27-2012 08:49 PM

I voted Enlightenment since it is very good for its weight and it's e17 version went final recently. However, I usually use Kwin since its default with KDE.

Openbox, Enlightenment, etc. should be in one award with KDE & Gnome IMHO. Though technically they are WMs vs DEs, still they are direct competitors as every DE includes WM anyway. Personally I use KDE, not KWin =)

Exactly my situation.

Compiz as most advanced eye-candy WM in town :)

Soderlund 12-29-2012 04:59 PM

I would vote for TWM but it's not in the list.

Agreed. wmii is an unbeatable tiling window manager. It is simple, yet has everything one needs, like floating windows and a menu in the style of dmenu, and its config file is an actual shell script.

wmii has been added.

Xmonad

As far as compositing goes, nothing runs as smooth or as beautiful as Compiz. Every other compositing window manager seems to choke on my not so modest hardware, whereas compiz makes everything smooth with no hitches.

divyashree 01-10-2013 09:24 PM

I have used compiz only. Can anyone suggest a better one to try.

I admit that I should have migrated to flux some time ago, but it just seems not necessary...

Not since the 90's We use openbox now :)

TWM is the shit, only wm with a unix feel to it these days (easy to configure too, using a single .twmrc)
Wish I could have voted for it.
