Voted for C++, but actually I use Qt which is not exactly and necessarily C++.

I wish people would stop voting for the same old lame, creaky languages and vote for languages that have actually been doing something pioneering. Maybe you are accustomed to C or C++, but they certainly don't deserve any best language of the year award. I picked Haskell because not only is it bringing true FP back into popularity, but GHC is constantly improving with new features (e.g., new language extensions and better support for /automatic/ multi-threading). Plus I've read some interesting articles about Haskell and the categorical design pattern, which could potentially revolutionize code reuse and compatibility.
Wouldn't mind hearing more from the users of some of the other interesting-sounding languages (e.g., Erlang, Lua, Scala, Scheme.) |
Awk. Nice to see it mentioned already. Hand in hand with bash, zsh ---or even sh.

C and only C.
I would be happy to vote Lua, but unfortunately cannot. Should not this poll be separated into compilable and interpretable languages polls? |
As suggested last year, it would be better to create a 'Scientific Package' or similar category that would include R, Maxima, Octave, etc. R is strange for this category, and the scientific category is kinda missing.

Fortran Forever
Thanks for adding it (last year I missed the voting, so not sure if fortran was included last year. Before that, it was really not there.)

Where is awk?
I can't vote, as awk, my favorite programming language, is not part of the list.
|
Python and Scheme baby! :) But C is high Cred as well. Interested in Go! too.
I'm voting for Python because it is a good mix of everything. Otherwise Scheme due to its Simplicity in design. |
Javascript

depends on what I'm doing
C# and Python |
Why not Awk?
@Jeremy: at least 4 of us would have voted for Awk. Could you please add it to the list?
|
AWK has been added.
