Mobile Distribution of the Year

What distribution do you think is best suited for a mobile device?

I love Maemo. But I cannot get a new device that will run it. Now own a Nokia E63 ... will have to switch to an Android device soon.

MeeGo seems to be reviving with Jolla and the community effort. Tizen and webOS (open) are yet to perform in the consumer market. Maemo didn't see much action this year. Next year there's going to be FirefoxOS arrival too. Android eco system is now the juggernaut. However for their outstanding work and and for providing the best pure android distribution, I voted Cyanogen.

i want to choice WP8 but... i think i should take part in some other polls.

I would like to see a device with Meego, but there are only devices with Android.

Strictly speaking, the Nokia N9 does not run MeeGo 1.2 as its operating system. It instead runs what Nokia refers to as a "MeeGo instance".

Why is replicant not on this list?

thiggins 01-03-2013 10:56 PM

Hopefully, next year we will see Ubuntu on this list.

jeremy 01-04-2013 09:26 AM

Replicant has been added.

Android rules the market ..

I'm going with CyanogenMod. While yes, it is a fork of Android, it is faster and more feature complete. Android+more customization is exactly what you get.

aseigo 01-25-2013 08:07 AM

Crazy: there's no Mer on this list even though it is the successor of both Meego and Maemo (which itself was superceded by Meego) is used by Jolla's Sailfish, KDE's Plasma Active, Nemo and many more. Tizen is there, though? Ah well ... maybe next year.

jeremy 01-25-2013 11:20 AM

Mer has been added.

I voted for Android

enteptain 01-31-2013 08:17 PM

had to vote CyanogenMod for all the hard work they do!! turned out very nice.
Tizen will hopefully my vote for next year, given the promises of the openness of their website.

I think BlackBerry is. I love that I can sync my BlackBerry device with my Linux computer using Berry Suite just via cable. My data is nice and secure, not in clouds, on my device and on my computer. Berry Suite is such a great program, and BlackBerry is a great platform.

I would like to vote for Kubuntu Active using the KDE Plasma Active touch screen user interface. Please add it to the list. Thanks.

Leoprince 02-02-2013 02:26 AM

Andriod has been added.. :)

zziggy 02-02-2013 11:04 AM

Replicant, without doubt!

Pixxt 02-04-2013 06:17 AM

CyanogenMod saved me 200 dollars so its the best.

FeyFre 02-04-2013 06:17 PM

Android, CyanogenMod? I did not know they can be called "distributions of Linux" at all?

They use the Linux kernel. So they are Linux, even though not GnuLinux, ne? (See http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/androi...s-freedom.html for an explanation.)
