I'm not familiar with firearms at all, so your comparison isn't really effective for me, but i think i get your point. Enlightenment is an odd ball and doesn't fit in any category perfectly?
I live in a slightly rural part of Australia, where mobile internet is also the only option for me, it also drops out for me, so i feel your pain.
You speak a lot of languages, that's very impressive, i speak Australian, English, American, Pig-latin, and a lot of crap; i even made up my own language for wizards, unfortunately since there's no more REAL wizards alive on Earth, i am the only one that understands this language, but i have faith that eventually the lost kingdom of wizards will one day return and then i will be accepted as the chosen one to raise up and save the human race from their own destruction in the face of power. You can thank me later.

Think about it ,can ur gf, or grandma use ur favorite distro without feel helples ?

My non geeky ex girlfriend used Debian quite comfortably once i installed it. I have heard people say statements like this before (especially in the Linux vs Windows thread). I personally strongly disagree with it. Once a distro is installed, many of them are just as easy to use as any other operating system. If you think about, the 'average' user just browsers the internet, goes on Facebook, Youtube ect. They might write up some word documents, view emails, ect, listen to music. These are easy things to do, and just as easy to do in Gnu/Linux. Gnu/Linux gets a reputation for being hard to use, not because it's actually hard to use, but really because many people are already used of doing things the 'Windows' way, and don't want to change. If you go on an OsX (mac) forum you'll find people who've seen the same thing (although in my opinion OsX is plain stupid and hard to use: honestly, why have a close button if it's not going to close a window.)
Alright, this entire post has been off topic, sorry for letting it go so long, i'll stop now .. :)
