VoIP Application of the Year

A new category this year.

sgosnell 12-22-2011 08:23 AM

I use none of the above. I've been using Google+ for VOIP since it came out, and prefer it by far.

H_TeXMeX_H 12-22-2011 08:28 AM

Please add qutecom:
http://trac.qutecom.org/

jeremy 12-22-2011 10:31 AM

QuteCom has been added.

scorpioofthewoods 12-30-2011 07:56 AM

I voted for an application but +1 to Google+ as that is what I have been using lately as well.

lewnidas_ 12-30-2011 10:25 AM

Skype for me....!!!!

justcallmejim 12-30-2011 11:50 AM

Mangler?

For me, Mangler (http://www.mangler.org/) was the only VoIPish application I used this year.

rokytnji 12-30-2011 11:55 AM

For me Jisti. I even made my own pet for it in my Puppy Installs. Even though it is not on the list.

jeremy 12-30-2011 11:58 AM

Jisti and Mangler have been added.

Hi,

Skype all the way since we use it a lot at work.

Kind regards,

Eric

landroni 01-02-2012 07:06 AM

You misspelled 'Ji*ts*i'. Thanks for including both Linphone and Jitsi.

H_TeXMeX_H 01-02-2012 09:39 AM

It would be nice if Jitsi worked, but it can't find my camera.

I voted for qutecom. I avoid skype, but sometimes / rarely use it.

Thanks jeremy.

And the winner is... itsy bitsy spider crawled up the water spout...

Wait..

istsy bitsy jitsi on kamailio is way more secure than Skype, and if you're the provider you won't have to bow down and subject your customers to unmentionable forms of deviant toture like Skype did when they provided the Chinese government with the secure skype chatlogs of their users!

metalaarif 01-04-2012 05:12 AM

same old skype

pajoe 01-04-2012 07:15 PM

A little off topic: Ooma VoIP uses open source and it is a great service that is constantly improving and adding features.

noah_vale 01-17-2012 07:37 AM

I always use Skype. Mainly because my 80+ year old auntie knows how to use it and I can keep up with all the family gossip in Scotland!

ps_sabu 01-17-2012 12:14 PM

SKype for me

hi

Skype is da best

cengique 02-01-2012 10:14 AM

Teamspeak?

Does teamspeak fit into this category? It lets several people talk to each other over IP :)

jeremy 02-01-2012 10:31 AM

TeamSpeak has been added.

--jeremy

savotije 02-06-2012 01:04 PM

still Skype.

FeyFre 02-07-2012 04:06 PM

PhonerLite

Tryum 02-08-2012 04:02 AM

More VoIP software to the list

deleted

Tryum 02-08-2012 04:10 AM

Please add:

P2P calls (literally IP to IP): IHU (I once made a call which was lasted for over 10 hours!)

Jingle/XMPP: Coccinella, Gajim, Psi, Psi+, PsiMedia (VoIP plugin for Psi)
* In the future Psi will use Farstream (formerly Farsight) just like Gajim.

SIP: SFLphone

All the Skype users are SELL OUTS (aaaawwwwaaaaaawwwawawa LETS START A FLAME WAR!!!) and now you are more SELL OUTS because it is now controlled by M$!!! :-P

jeremy 02-08-2012 10:11 AM

SFLphone has been added (mainly to ensure it is included next year). It doesn't appear that IHU has had a new release since 2008.

Skype for sure.

ghostnik11 02-08-2012 12:13 PM

I would like to say Ekiga for me since, it was ekiga on ubuntu that got me aware of SIP/VOIP and I have not looked back ever since.

We still vote for XMMS, don't we?

Jeremy, IHU works well and the beauty about its complete decentralized nature and fashion is that no one can know how many people really are using it.

For the next time, please add IHU and other VoIP applications like Gajim, Pidgin and Psi.
BTW, by seeing Pidgin on the list, more users will be aware of its VoIP capabilities with Jingle of XMPP.
There is nothing wrong by posting the same application in both IM and VoIP lists at the same time, with exception for Audio/Video which should be separated.

I don't think it is good idea. If it has VoIP capabilities and user use it, some user will want vote it here(and so ask to add it into poll). Polls aimed to get people favourites, not to influence it. If nobody voted Pidgin as VoIP, it means it is not worth it. Adding to poll nobody known, and nobody used piece of software is looks like advertisement an so influences true picture. By the way, Asterisk is also very good "VoIP application", and I'm sure there are a number users here in LQ which use it, but it doesn't means it should be included here unconditionally :)

nematoad 02-18-2012 05:04 PM

And don't forget to mention Shoretel

Don't forget to vote for Shoretel from Shoreline Communications as the most robust industrial grade Voip out there.
