I do a lot of text work - vi and vim do everything I need (and much more) and I spent a lot of time learning key strokes

Gedit, all the way, but when in text-only land, nano is a safe bet, mostly for the coloring of the code in shell scripts

joe is one of the first things I install on a new system.

But I'll use nano too, and spend more time in Kate (or Gedit).

I voted for nano, but I use gedit far more often, but I voted for nano because I use nano for text editing and gedit as an IDE (with embedded terminal emulator). So for me, gedit isn't for text editing, it takes WAY TOO LONG to load to use it for just text editing.

Text mode: nano
Xorg: leafpad

…voted nano because I probably tend to use it more, even when in X (in ptys and whatnot).
