What can I say? MPlayer never let me down. In the other hand, I liked a lot Dragon Player on KDE though GUI is not my thing.

VLC seems to be the only video player that hasn't given me any problems yet, although I haven't actually tried MPlayer yet

Use xine for DVD's , Kaffeine for digital tv....xine-lib/xine-ui doesn't lock on tv signals as well as Kaffeine does!

Use mencoder for my own DVR recorder of both Digital and Analog TV channels.

I Sadly and regretably voted for Totem instead of VLC :-( I just love Totems Youtube feature and makes it very easy to save a flash video if I want to. But VLC is freaking AWESOME in its own right for playing litterally anything!! Just in my personal use I have not yet found a video Totem wouldn't play. But do have VLC install just in case :-)

Mplayer. No fancy GUIS, just straight mplayer from the commandline, I've learnt the important keys.
