Yes, we know many of these apps are not directly comparable.

Inkscape 100%. IMO it's better than Adobe's Illustrator. I can't say the say thing about GIMP (Photoshop) and Blender (3D Studio Max). But I still use all 3.

sycamorex 01-13-2011 02:01 PM

Inkscape - It's almost a pleasure to work with:)

The Gimp...

eveningsky339 01-13-2011 07:17 PM

Blender, followed by GIMP.

I wish you had included far the best

batfastad 01-14-2011 02:53 AM

GIMP and Inkscape are excellent. Can't wait until the GIMP have re-factored it to use GEGL for colour management, then hopefully we'll see CMYK support and I can ditch PotatoShop.
But I've gone Inkscape because it's already at a competitive level with illustrator

I have voted for scribus to give it the attention it deserves.
It got me a new job as I have written my cv's with it.

Krita made a lot of improvements this year.

Darn Gimp! Too much quality in this competition anyways.
On a side note, darktable seems interesting. I'll check it out.

It is routine to distinguish between vector-based and pixel based apps in this area.

I don't know what category it'd fit in, but I love Gnash, the free software version of flash.
