I used to use ekiga, but I have yet to see a version work reliably for over a year. Linphone has its issues, but at least it is usable.

I wish I could cast 2 votes here. Both pidgin and irssi share love from me, but I use them in different ways. Irssi for irc and pidgin for everything else. I tried irc on pidgin for a while but didn't like it, as it is lacking some capabilities that I like to have with IRC connections.

But, since I use aim/msn more than IRC, pidgin has to get my vote.

irssi + bitlbee for IM for sure. Switched over from Pidgin. Can connect in screen throughout the house.
