Firefox for me personally, but depending on how one interprets '...of the year', I figure Chrome is also noteworthy since it's "big and shiny and new" or something like that, though I've never seen it myself so don't know first-hand how "big and shiny" it really is-- but it's new on the scene, and that's something.
Firefox has got so sluggish, with occasional freezes, that I've switched to Opera. It may not take so many fancy plug-ins, but it's fast and reliable.
David, if you're interested and haven't come across it yet, search for a thread titled something like "Tweaking the **** out of Firefox" for loads of goodies to make your Firefox rock! FWIW, I can't remember any freezes of FF for me.. If there were, it was a long long time ago (in a galaxy far....)
I'd like to see SRWare Iron in the list - Chrome without the nosiness... But maybe that's too early - it's still a beta.
For the time being, Firefox is still the browser I use most. But even the newest builds have issues (at least in Ubuntu and Debian); the part that works the worst is the download manager - it can really stall the whole browser. It's worth calling up a terminal and using wget instead...

I know how to speed-tweak FF but apart from being problematic at times with Mozilla you also get plug-ins that are disabled or will not be available as stable releases for a long time on product update. I've voted Opera. It may be closed source but I've been using it for ages and it just behaves well and performs way better compared to Firefox.
