Which isn't a desktop environment.

ephemeros 01-31-2009 05:13 AM

XFCE all the way! i think its strength is not necessarily speed as most think, but usability. for me it is the natural GTK+ desktop for the Gnome base environment (gdm + system tools, players, etc).

Going with GNOME because its on ubuntu and it always works out of the box for me, I vote for this because nothing comes close to ease of use on the go.

I would also like to see a KDE 3.x option...

KDE4

Hi All I normally don't take part but here is my 5 cents

KDE4 Wow, bold new idea new direction showing windows we can be even more appealing than vista and all these new and old apps for xp

Stable and still getting the support from u smart people to make my bugs no more.

Linux is not my OS anymore i think it has become me now, CHOICE i like what it gives me, whether you use UBUNTU or your favorite distribution
we need to move forward

To understand what i mean find a video on you tube called (Linux IBM add)
see the little boy as Linux ,it always makes me proud being part of change and not a follower .

to all people in involved in Linux even the users thank you thank you ............for the choice never loose it, other wise we will all be sheep.

Thank you

KDE4 made KDE unusable and way too bloated, reminded me of windoze so moved to a more usable system. Too bad as KDE3 was so nice.

I know.
But since I've started using FB, I've stopped using DEs. I was just explaining why I've not used XFCE again yet.

I Voted LXDE not as based on functionality compared with other Desktop environments, in that regard it is still growing.

I voted because I think it is the highlight for the year. It fills a niche managing to consolidate independent tools into a coherent environment.

One or two years ago I would have voted Enlightenment for the creativity.

XFCE all the way. Gnome (as an environment) is just too full of bloat lately.

rerushg 02-04-2009 10:01 AM

Gotta give KDE credit for having the guts to push out KDE4 way before it was ready for prime time. Gnome is great but continues to add bloat. IMHO, XFCE stayed on a steady track of lean-and-mean while getting the job done. I look for more distros to become XFCE based instead of KDE/Gnome based with XFCE community projects available.

KDE4

bluecog6 02-04-2009 06:39 PM

I still love KDE3, but it's being replaced by KDE4 -- of which I am not too fond. So I switched to GNOME.

RudraB 02-04-2009 08:42 PM

Gnome...what else?

dora 02-05-2009 04:23 AM

Voted for GNOME but currently playing with KDE, which I no longer hate. Time will tell how long this new relationship is going to last.
